I am Jan Hawkins, principal of Crawford Elementary School. Crawford is located in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. We have a diverse student population which includes international students whose parents attend Indiana State University. Many of our students live in Farrington Grove Historic District that you can read about here on our web site. Our school has a wonderful history that includes having our current building designed by a woman architect. Our website is possible because we are a Buddy Computer site. Our fourth and fifth grade students are loaned a computer for home use as well as having computers at school. Our building serves kindergarten to fifth grade. We have a fantastic and diverse staff. The teachers provide a stimulating and secure learning environment for each of our students. We appreciate the interest and support our parents and our business partners share on behalf of our children. Crawford school offers special education services for the learning disabled, mildly mentally handicapped, and communication disorders. We have a terrific counselor for all students as well as our "at-risk" students. The counselor sponsors our Friendly Helpers. Title 1 serves children, who qualify, in grades K-3 and supports two all day kindergarten classes. English as a Second Language (ESL) students have daily services available for them. Our media specialist is always looking for ways to expand our book collection and our computer software. Our school cafeteria serves nutritious meals for breakfast and lunch for all students. Head Start provides after school child care daily. Each member of our staff plays an important role in the education of the whole child.
